Chapter Two Pok arrived in the barracks with his final count for the day. 149 battles, 84 duels, and 301 skirmishes. Across all of those, 897 battlefield kills, and at least twice as many assists. And 2,611 had fallen, either alongside him or under his command, thirteen of these had been in the most recent battle. And that was before considering the many who fell in the army as a whole. It was to be expected, or so he had always been told. The Elder Races were supposed to be leagues above all others, being the result of the combined efforts of the Gods before Heaven’s War. Dragons were supposed to be the greatest, but that meant little when Kobolds were used as spear fodder. If the battle was taken as any form of rational measurement, an Elf was worth far more than the handfuls of Kobolds required to fell one. Looking around, Pok spotted Kodi, Reen, and Yik. All three were visibly exhausted, covered in ashes that they looked grey rather than the shades of black of their scales.
